  4. The Edit menu contains the Undo command and Clipboard functions.

  6. Undo
  7. ----
  8.  
  9. Most commands first save away a copy of the current image. 
  10. You can generally undo the effect of the most recent operation
  11. by picking "undo" from the Edit menu or pressing the "Esc"
  12. key.  
  13.  
  14. Performing undo again will undo the undo.  Sounds confusing 
  15. but it isn't.  After performing some sort of image processing
  16. function this can be used to toggle back and forth between
  17. the before and after states.

  19. Copy
  20. ----

  22. This makes a copy of the currently selected region and places
  23. it on the "clipboard."  From here you can "Paste" it into
  24. other images or write it to a file.

  26. To select a region:
  27.  
  28. Click on the "select" icon in the paint tool box.  This is the
  29. one with the rectangle with dashed lines.  Move the mouse 
  30. pointer to one corner of the desired region.  Hold down the 
  31. left mouse button while dragging the pointer to the opposite
  32. corner of the desired region.

  35. Paste

  38. This copy the contents of the Clipboard to the corner of the
  39. current image.  The cursor turns to a hand shape, indicating
  40. that you can grab the image and drag it to the desired 
  41. location.

  43. To position the pasted image:
  44.  
  45. Place the hand cursor somewhere in the pasted image.  Press the
  46. left mouse button and hold it down while dragging the image to
  47. the desired location.  You only get one chance so don't 
  48. release the mouse button until the image is in the proper
  49. position.

  51. Paste Transparent
  52. -----------------

  54. This is the same as Paste except the background color is 
  55. changed to transparent.  The background color is determined
  56. automatically by looking at the average color on the edges
  57. of the image on the clipboard.  Results probably won't be
  58. satisfactory unless this is fairly consistent.

  60. Here is an example of how you might use it.  
  61.  
  62. 1. Place a toy carnivorous dinosaur against a blue
  63.    background and get a picture of it with your TV camera 
  64.    and frame grabber.
  65. 2. Click on the Select icon in the paint tool box.
  66. 3. Imagine a rectangle large enough to enclose the dinosaur.
  67.    Place the cursor in one corner of that imaginary rectangle,
  68.    press the left button, and drag the cursor to the 
  69.    opposite corner.  Finally, release the button.
  70. 4. Pick Copy from the Edit menu.
  71. 5. Get a picture of yourself looking scared.
  72. 6. Pick Paste Transparent from the Edit menu.  The dinosaur
  73.    will appear in the upper left corner and the cursor changes
  74.    to a hand shape.
  75. 7. Place the hand cursor on the dinosaur.  Press the left mouse
  76.    button and hold it down while dragging the dinosaur to a 
  77.    position where it is about to attack you.  Release the 
  78.    button.

  80. Notice that the blue background of the pasted image became
  81. transparent.  The background color doesn't have to be blue.
  82. Any color will do but it should be fairly consistent for best
  83. results.  Normally the background color should be substantially
  84. different than any color in the subject.  However, you might
  85. want part of the subject to be made transparent.

  87. Tile

  90. Similar to Paste except it completely fills the image with 
  91. copies of the clipboard content.  The term comes from filling 
  92. a wall or floor with tiles all pushed together.

  94. Tile Transparent

  97. Same as Tile except the background color is made transparent.

  99. Open to Clipboard

  102. This is used to read an image file directly to the clipboard.

  104. The Open on the File menu always rescales an image to fit in
  105. the 640 x 480 work area sometimes stretching it as required
  106. to completely fill the space.

  108. Open to Clipboard maintains the original size and aspect ratio.

  110. Save from Clipboard
  111. -------------------

  113. This writes the Clipboard contents to a file.  
  114.  
  115. Save on the File menu always creates a file with a size of 
  116. 640 x 480 or 320 x 240.

  118. When writing an image file from the Clipboard it can be any
  119. size and shape.  The combination of Open to Clipboard and 
  120. Save from Clipboard can be used to convert from one file
  121. type to another without changing the image size.
